In this role, you will elevate The Washington Post’s share of voice, supporting the growth of partnerships by telling compelling visual stories across deck designs, data visualizations for our analytics and thought leadership efforts, and various sub brand visual identity builds in a variety of formats (social, website, video). The ideal candidate is first and foremost a visual storyteller, believing that great design and ideas are media-agnostic and can be articulated on any platform. In this hands-on role, you will be part of a tight-knit team that is collaborative and nimble, working on multiple projects at a time, and you’ll coordinate extensively with Product, Technology, Development, Marketing, Production, and Editorial to execute various in-house and promotional designs. We are looking for candidates with refined aesthetics, visual fluency, and a high understanding and aptitude for presentation design, branding & identity design, and data visualization design.
Responsibilities
Develop and uphold branding & identity values across a variety of sub brands that position The Washington Post as a leader in innovative digital advertising
Work closely with various teams to develop custom materials and deck designs for proposals, reports, and various promotional documents that support Washington Post platforms
Elevate identity and storytelling formats across a variety of channels (social, presentation design, email newsletters, motion) with cutting-edge, best-in-class designs including data visualization
Develop and maintain a library of high-quality creative executions across platforms, stock imagery, templates, spec guidelines, demo videos, etc
Create and manage identities, such as logo designs, for The Post's different product offerings
Create data visualization and layouts for analytics and trend reports
Requirements
Expert knowledge of presentation design, with particular focus on setting up templates and master slides in Microsoft PowerPoint
Expert knowledge of branding & identity design and management
Proven comfort level with data visualization and transforming complex data sets into visual narratives
Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts/Graphic Design/Visual Communications or commensurate experience
4-7 years as a Digital Designer working with a creative team in Marketing, Advertising, Media or Publishing; agency experience a plus
Expert in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator minimum)
Digital video, animation, and motions graphics experience a plus
Social media growth and innovation expertise a plus
Experience in print, digital, and presentation design, including PowerPoint and Keynote
Must be a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment
Must be comfortable following design direction and implementing changes, while balancing strong design and meeting tight deadlines
