Block is seeking an experienced architectural designer to join their team as a Design Systems Director. The Design Systems Director is responsible for establishing a future-state vision of Block’s design technology stack, developing the strategy to realize this vision and working collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization to implement the changes. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop the vision for Block’s design system and tech stack; project manage to drive the change and realize results on time and to budget

  • Lead and manage a team to deliver results in partnership with third parties where necessary

  • Articulate the future state vision to internal stakeholders, create buy-in, educate where necessary, and generate excitement

  • Develop RFPs for third party support as necessary, evaluate the proposals against a selection framework, develop recommendations and associated business cases to leadership for approval

  • Drive the creation of new architectural design tools, technology, products and systems that improve operating efficiency, accuracy, quality and our customer’s experience

  • Collaborate with our product and engineering teams to connect the design system with the company’s broader technology roadmap

  • In conjunction with our analytics and insight teams, study, test and monitor the performance of these product improvements and innovations. Integrate company-wide data into design tooling

  • Build strong relationships across the organization and with our external partners

  • Cultivate and contribute to a great team culture

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of professional experience leading innovation in the architecture, interior design, construction or home improvement industry

  • Deep understanding of design technology solutions, BIM management and computational design in architecture

  • Experience in web-based AEC technologies, such as Autodesk Forge and BIM 360/Collaborate, and design software, such as Revit and AutoCAD; familiarity with SQL or programming languages is a plus

  • Strong analytical mindset and interest in data and its ability to drive serious business impact; fluency in Excel and Google Sheets is a must

  • Experience with project management tools

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and collaborate up and down the organization, as well as with external stakeholders

  • Experience managing cross-functional projects and teams in fast-paced, evolving environments

  • Highly self-motivated, with the conviction and focus to direct and drive change

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Passionate about creating great consumer experiences

  • Ability to build for the long term while also being able to find efficient short-term solutions
