Sr. Experiential Brand Designer - Vocon (Cleveland, OH)

As a Senior Experiential Brand Designer, you’ll work closely with the Creative Director in developing experiential brand strategies and will be responsible for translating those strategies into compelling, integrated storytelling moments within the built environment. You’ll act as lead designer and will carry the project from strategic approach to production. You’ll also work with other studios to ensure designs are effectively integrated into the architecture and interior design while also being the brand advocate at the table. More importantly, you clearly communicate design objectives to our clients and ensure their brand story is properly told.

Responsibilities

  • Take design direction and instruction from the Creative Director.

  • Report project progress and status to the Practice Leader & Creative Director on a regular basis.

  • Manage client and vendor communication when applicable.

  • Maintain a sense of flexibility in process and workflow.

  • Mentor and guide designers, junior designer, and interns through the design process.

  • Maintain a respectful, professional, and reliable relationship with the team, other Vocon studios, clients, and vendors.

  • Deliver results within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Effectively time manage and execute project work in a timely manner with an understanding of project and fabrication budgets.

  • Communicate with and present to clients as a professional extension of Vocon and the Experiential Brand Design team.

  • Carry multiple projects at a time from strategy and concept design through design development and production.

  • Effectively oversee and delegate design responsibilities between self and project design team (designers, junior designers, and interns).

  • Participate in charrettes and design reviews with the team on various projects.

  • Collaborate with architectural and interior design studios within Vocon while promoting EBD expertise and building confidence and partnerships.

  • Assist in developing effective brand and experiential visioning sessions with the Senior Experiential Brand Strategist and/or Creative Director.

  • Conduct and gather research supporting evidence-based design and pertaining to visual communication, experience and wayfinding.

  • Translate brand narratives into experiential strategies, mapping diagrams, content outlines, and masterplans.

  • Conduct site audits to evaluate and determine existing conditions, and clearly translate audits into a documented analysis of opportunities and challenges with appropriate corresponding recommendations.

  • Develop presentations that clearly define conceptual thinking, design intent, content, and strategy for client’s understanding.

  • Develop forward-thinking design solutions that effectively communicate brand, experiential, and wayfinding strategies via two and three-dimensional forms (imagery, sketches, elevations, renderings, etc.).

  • Execute design solutions with sophisticated composition and typographic skills, illustrate effective use of scale within the built environment, utilize intelligent use of form and function, and maintain compliance with state and federal building and safety codes.

  • Collaborate with vendors to determine cost-effective, innovative, and appropriate fabrication methods.

  • Work with vendors to determine efficient and effective intent, shop drawing, and sample/prototype processes and reviews.

  • Create clear intent and installation drawings with the use of location diagrams and plans, elevations, sections, detail drawings, renderings, written specifications, message schedules, etc.

  • Develop accurate and detailed production files and manage quality control throughout the production and fabrication process through shop drawing review, site verification, production file proofing, RFI review and response, and punch lists.

  • Ability to translate design thinking into both two- and three-dimensional forms (sketches, elevations, renderings, etc.).

  • Ability to translate brand narratives into meaningful experiential strategies that effectively communicate storylines.

  • Ability to create holistic design solutions that marry brand, experience, signage and wayfinding.

  • Knowledge of visual legibility standards, typical mounting recommendations, and best practices.

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), SketchUp, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.

  • Revit, AutoCad, and Filemaker Pro, and CadTools a plus.
