Data Visualization Producer - Southern Poverty Law Center (Atlanta, GA)
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) seeks a skilled Data Visualization Producer to join its Creative Department. The Data Visualization Producer will be responsible for storytelling by presenting data in ways that allow SPLC's digital audiences to interpret and identify patterns, trends, and correlations quickly. These representations include interactive maps, charts, dashboards, graphs, and other forms.

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Data Visualization Producer will use visualization tools and software to communicate information across SPLC's digital platforms – including websites, social media platforms and video. Candidates should display a passion for transforming data into meaningful storytelling and innovation utilizing digital and creative platforms to solve challenges related to mission-driven online campaigns and public education work.
Primary Job Functions:
- Produce high-quality, shareable data-driven content, including graphics, interactives, and other data visualizations;
- Report and research topics and data for interactives and visualizations;
- Contribute to planning for projects, social media initiatives, programmatic work, and current events;
- Fulfill work requests, including data process/workflow and multimedia consultation; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements Include:
- At least three (3) years experience ideally having worked with leading digital content developers and/or publishers;
- Expertise in visualizing data using out-of-the-box tools and creating them from scratch;
- Expertise with mapping software such as Mapbox or ArcGIS;
- Experience building data-driven interactives using D3, JQuery and React;
- Strong knowledge of user-centered design and usability principles, issues and techniques;
- Expertise in industry standard design tools (Adobe Creative Cloud: Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects);
- Experience working with an online publishing tool or content management system; and
- High school diploma or GED.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Excellent analytical skills;
- Ability to work with large amounts of information and translate it into a clear online visual experience;
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral with a comfort working with interoffice online communication tools;
- Experience with Tableau or comparable visualization software;
- Capacity to work independently and in small teams;
- Expertise with Excel or other spreadsheet software;
- Effective critical thinking skills to proactively solve issues and come to new conclusions based on the findings;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Ability to contribute creativity and innovation to web projects;
- Excellent collaboration skills to effectively work cross-functionally within a team and with remote colleagues;
- Ability to work within specific workflows while exercising excellent judgment to know when additional measures are needed;
- Demonstrable knowledge of online engagement and activism;
- Demonstrable knowledge of creation of compelling social media content;
- Ability to multi-task in high-pressure situations;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage priorities and adapt to rapid developments and shifting deadlines;
