Working directly with Associate level designers and Principals to execute the creative intent and vision of artwork proposals. Varying in starting points from simple artist sketch to draft 3D development, a Designer will take ownership over the development of iterative models to workshop delivery strategies and takeoffs used for pricing estimations, client liasing, and direct coordination with Artists and lead creatives.

The ultimate goal of these efforts are to ensure that the artist’s vision and creative integrity of the work is maintained through all projects phases and that the art adds purpose to the public realm. 

 Ensure that the design deliverables are supporting the quality expectations for the project and broader UAP business. 

  

 Collaborating with creatives during the introductory briefing stage of a project under the guidance of senior UAP staff.

  • Executing the design process using commercial, programmed, and technical expertise.

  • Ensuring that the design process recognises current standards and codes of practice, where appropriate.

  • Maintaining a consistent design product using company provided templates and graphic standards.

  • Ensuring the design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project timelines.

  • Contributing to the ongoing development of UAP’s creative vision and strategy.

 Support the proposal process including estimation takeoffs and internal coordination deliverables.   

  • Participating in conversations with vendors and consultants.

  • Producing precise material and system takeoffs for detail coordination and pricing.

  • Workshopping strategies with vendor teams for the optimal precision and end result with an understanding of budget limitations or goals.

  • Providing iterative options of design intent models and flag areas of potential risk or opportunity.

  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies in a process that will benefit the UAP team in ongoing projects of a similar type.

 Take ownership over tasks related to the production of technical drawing sets including liasing with workshop staff and management teams. 

  • Addressing minor procedural issues when drawing typical details and highlighting areas of concern with senior design staff.

  • Proactively offering solutions in projects with short delivery timelines to ensure deadline commitments are met.

  • Joining team meetings to present working 3D models/drawing sets and efficiently picking up comments and suggested changes.

  • Maintaining ownership of design files and working in an organized manner with attention paid to proper file organization and clean layer management.

  • Participating in in-person or remote workshops and handover meetings into next project delivery stages.

Requirements

  • Experience in the Fine Arts, Industrial Design, Architecture, or related fields.

  • Experience in working through custom design scopes with various integrations including specialty material suppliers, automation, lighting, fabrication/manufacturing, AR/VR, and other similar industry consultants.

  • Clear understanding of fabrication methods and techniques with the ability to pick up on workshop preferred strategies.

  • Excellent practical ability with Adobe Creative Suites, CAD software applications, and Rhino. Working understanding and intermediate functionality in 3ds Max, SolidWorks, and/or Sketchup. Parametric capabilities a plus, but not required.

  • Understanding of the creative, construction or manufacturing industries.

  • Analytical and problem solving skills in design and construction methodology.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage workflow and productivity level while staffed on multiple projects with concurrent deadlines.

  • Intermediate level of program use within Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to coordinate with design team leadership and present working models.

  • Ability to present a professional image to clients and collaborators.
