Store Designer, Greater California - Starbucks (California)

Pay Range $86,400 - $129,700/annually
This position contributes to Starbucks success by supporting the regional store design process to create outstanding store designs that uphold the Starbucks Customer Experience. The process is inclusive of all phases of design from schematic through construction documents and administration while honoring budget, schedule and operational requirements.

As a store designer, you will...

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Executes Design strategy in design of Starbucks stores. Provides clear, effective and timely communication of design direction and changes to internal designers and external consultants. Identifies exceptions, proposes and implements design solutions.
- Contributes to studio team goals by achieving target deliverables on number of stores and meeting all established deadlines.
- Designs stores within parameters of individual store budgets and market requirements with alignment from cross-functional teams
- Develops design documentation to support design intent per regional guidelines including schematic drawings and finish palettes.
- Manages the production of construction documents by internal and external designers and consultants. Responsible for the integrity and quality of the construction documents inclusive of design intent, detailing, code requirements, scheduling and MEPs.
- Participates in the architectural design process by reviewing and analyzing project documentation.
- Sets schedules with alignment from cross-functional teams. Communicates dates to project team and meets all established deadlines. Conducts site visits as needed.
- Participates in schematic reviews with cross-functional teams.
- Mentors other more junior designers.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:  

  • Domain knowledge of relationship management, contracting, R&D, product development, category/marketing, supply chain planning and execution, and finance domains as well as the key technology capabilities to support them.  

  • Ability to find common threads and themes between business capabilities and help abstract and organize them into salient grouping based on business goals and objectives.

  • Ability to conceptualize underpinning data architecture and a passion for bringing analytics and insights to the business teams through POC’s and partnership.

  • Technology integration experience in M&A or business partnership-oriented environment.

  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard identity and security practices.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Consistently uses communications skills to influence outcomes.

Basic Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities superior verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to thoroughly understand complex business and technical issues and influence decision making.

  • Ability to influence others without authority to get things done in a timely fashion.

  • 4 years of Sketchup and AutoCad experience

  • 2+ years of Revit experience

  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability to use analytics and optimization tools to inform product planning and prioritization.

  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability to work with design and engineering to deliver large cross functional business process and systems transformations across the following domains: relationship management, R&D, product development, category/marketing, supply chain planning and execution, and finance.

  • 7 years of hands-on experience in developing roadmaps, priorities, features, story outlines, writing user stories, refining product backlogs, and coordinating/prioritizing conflicting requirements in a fast-paced, changing environment with variety of stakeholders.

  • 3 years of managing product delivery and release in an agile environment.

  • 10 years of industry experience in a technology environment with a record of successfully delivering complex products.

  • Leadership, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Masters / MBA preferred

  • 3 years’ experience coaching and mentoring other team members

  • Detailed and results-oriented, able to analyze data to justify product decisions and apply key learnings.

  • Exhibits expertise across multiple products and an ability to build and maintain close relationships with stakeholders to drive efficiencies.

  • Consistently uses communications skills to influence outcomes.

  • Strong knowledge of agile/scrum methodology and user centric design; may be certified product owner; may collaborate with PMO/scrum master on project methodology to highlight issues and help as needed for product lifecycle.
