AN Media draws thousands of professionals to our Facades+, TECH+, and virtual event conferences held across the country.

Our award-winning, New York City–based media company is celebrating 20 years of publishing The Architect’s Newspaper. In addition to that title, AN Media Group also publishes AN Interior, a magazine of interiors realized by architects.

The Role

AN Media Group, publisher of The Architect’s Newspaper and AN Interior magazine, is currently accepting applications for a Design Editor to report to the Executive Editor.

The ideal candidate is self-directed and has an avid interest in architecture, design, urbanism, technology, and related fields, plus work or educational experience in journalism and/or architecture.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Writing about a variety of topics, including design, interiors, and products in articles of varying complexity, from news to more in-depth pieces

  • Leadership of AN’s three awards programs: Best of Practice, Best of Products, and Best of Design

  • Coordination with freelance products contributor and Sales team for products coverage in AN and AN Interior

Tasks:

  • Regular contributions to archpaper.com and aninteriormag.com and print issues

  • Management of AN’s three Awards Programs including jury selection, organization of content and design for promotion and actively engaging all past and potential entries through emails and phone calls to ensure each program reaches the proposed budget.

  • Coordination with freelance products contributor and Sales team

  • Evaluating pitches and working with architects, designers, PR, and manufacturers to coordinate coverage

  • Attending industry-related events and conferences

  • Website input and maintenance, including uploading and styling online content

  • Handling of photography, including resizing, organizing, and providing accurate credits

  • Developing sources and contacts in relevant fields

  • Writing sponsored content as needed in consultation with Executive Editor and Marketing team

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of work experience in an editorial, architectural, or design setting.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, architecture, or a related field.

  • Extraordinary organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to stay on top of design news, including new products, collections, technologies, etc.

  • Knowledge of and interest in architecture, urbanism, design, and related fields.

  • Availability to at times attend industry events outside of business hours.

  • Editing experience with improving texts written by others.

  • Required knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, and WordPress

  • Knowledge of the wider Creative Suite, including Adobe InCopy, is beneficial.

The position is full-time and will work from AN’s New York office in Tribeca.

SALARY/COMPENSATION

The salary for this position is dependent on the candidate's experience is $65,000 to $70,000 per year.
