About Us
Built Environment Plus (BE+) is a member-based community driving sustainable and regenerative design, construction, and operations of the built environment. BE+ provides green building education, networking, advocacy and leadership opportunities for the sustainable building practitioner community and beyond. Our events and programming are supported and enhanced by the volunteer efforts of our community members, the leaders and aspiring leaders in the green building industry.
The organization, and this role with it, evolves alongside the construction industry to find new ways to drive the sustainability of the built environment. The stakes are high and there’s a lot of work to do. The pace is fast. The work can be intense. At the same time the role and the work we do is extremely rewarding. Currently, Built Environment Plus provides education to the community in a number of ways:
Live – TRAININGS
Typically is the following:
Classroom style education in-person or virtual
Typically one instructor with many students
A combination of lecture and discussion
A potential for homework and reading assignments
Public and/or private
Can be pulled together as a curriculum or offered individually
Two hours or more
Not limited to sustainability topics
Continuing education units available
Able to be offered multiple times
Included in BE+ Training Catalogue
Eligible to be included in MA Workforce Training Fund General Program and Express Program
Live – STRATEGIC EDUCATIONAL EVENTS
Typically is the following:
Taught by one instructor or a panel
Primarily Lecture / Presentation with Q&A at the end
Without homework or required readings, though may include supporting documents
Public
Offered as an event series
Thirty minutes or more
On topics that are relevant, timely and reactive to current events
A one time event
Not included in BE+ Training Catalogue
Not eligible for A Workforce Training Fund General Program and Express Program
BE+ Communities composed of industry experts and aspiring experts contribute to education. Courses are often taught by community members and industry experts and in-turn support our community building efforts.
Workforce Training Funding Opportunities

We seek ways to lift the financial burden of participating in our education programs. Currently we leverage dollars available from the Commonwealth of MA to provide education to MA based employees through the Workforce Training Fund General and Express Programs. We assist companies in pursuing these grants in varied capacities.
Educational Collateral
We seek to be a resource for our community, keeping them informed through our BE+ newsletters, blogs, course and event recordings, one pagers, links to other resources, social media and more.
JOB SUMMARY
The Education Director is a full-time exempt position that supports BE+ in achieving its mission by leading the education portion of our strategic plan. This includes overseeing Live Trainings, Strategic Educational Events, and Workforce Training Funding Opportunities. The role involves collaborating on marketing, managing continuing education units, and supporting static educational collateral. This position reports to the Executive Director. The role will start full-time remotely. BE+ anticipates securing office space in downtown Boston in the near future and at that point employees will be expected to be in the office 2-3 days a week.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Education Director will have these primary areas of responsibility:
Direction and Leadership
Execute, refine, and report on the BE+ education strategic plan in consultation with the Education Committee of the Board.
Manage Education team staff including hiring, goal setting and reviews, and professional development.
Marketing of Education Programs
Collaborate w/ Deputy Director and Communications Associate on informational and promotional content across multiple social media platforms, newsletters, and email communications
Identify potential audience for all education offerings and participate in planning and outreach
Ensure marketing includes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion objectives
Managing Continuing Education Credits
Work with Education Associate to ensure the availability and distribution of CEUs
Ensure Education Associate’s success in pre/post training duties related to CEU approval, distribution, certificate creation, marketing, and other program requirements.
Manage relationships with GBCI, ILFI, AIA, and others.
In support of Live Trainings and Strategic Education Events
Curate and manage the BE+ Training Catalogue
Foster existing instructor relations and building relationships with new and potential instructors
Oversee and maintain course schedules and training website content.
Coordinate with and attend BE+ roundtables to assess opportunities and needs
Work closely with BE+ roundtable leadership and staff to plan and execute events.
Develop feedback loops and opportunities for community input
In support of Funding Opportunities
Track funding opportunities to ease access to our programs
Assist clients in pursuing grant opportunities like the Workforce Training Fund (WFTF) General and Express Programs.
Managing WFTF General Program Grants for Select Client
Curriculum and Course Selection
Grant Submission and accounting
Provide support for WFTF Express Program Clients
Oversee registering courses with the WFTF Express Program.
Managing Programs related to Education
Develop and manage new education programs that bundle BE+ offerings into a comprehensive curriculum that may result in a certificate.
This may include the Green Building Leadership Institute, ILFI, certificate programs, and mentorship
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizational Excellence
Support Executive Director in achieving strategic goals, and foster a healthy workplace and BE+ community culture. Contribute to community, gov’t and policy and research initiatives.
Staff public events as appropriate.
In order to fulfill the stated responsibilities of the role, the ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in related field. Passionate commitment to the principles of sustainability, regeneration, green building.
Detail-oriented and self-starter. We are a small team, and the individual will need to manage their own workload, as well as work well with the team.
Strong work ethic, highly self-motivated.
Flexibility in the job role, understanding the need to dynamically respond to evolving BE+ needs that are often driven by external events and opportunities;
Project and program management skills; and a high standard for file management;
Ability to work some evenings and early mornings for events;
Ability to think out of the box and find creative, inventive solutions;
Preferred:
Google Suite
Advanced degree
Experience in green building education
Knowledge of education theory
Compensation
Salary $80k – $90k commensurate with experience.
