This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Maverick Golf & Ranch Club, set outside of Fort Worth, TX. Maverick Golf & Ranch Club is seeking a Director of Architecture and Design to join the Development Department.

The Director of Architecture and Design will support all development responsibilities for the residential and amenity offerings based on-site. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full scope architectural plan coordination/development management for the residential and commercial amenity projects.

  • Coordinate with and manage the architectural, interior design, and sub-consultant teams on all residential and commercial projects, managing design approvals, CD production and integration of all project participants: interior design, lighting designer, restaurant consultant, spa consultant, Architectural, MEP, Structural, Acoustic, civil engineering, landscape architecture, internal Discovery Land operations, and all other specialty participants, such as fitness, gym, bowling, climbing, etc.

  • Prepare weekly meeting agendas, meeting minutes and maintain a “ball-in-court” action item lists as needed. Monitor and drive progress ensuring actionable items are resolved and progress to meet the plan development schedule.

  • Obtain and negotiate consultant proposals and provide approval recommendations to development team.

  • Oversee architectural and construction scheduling, coordinating with all participants to achieve support and drive completion dates.

  • Coordinate with General Contractor and Construction Managers (as applicable) during the preconstruction and construction phases on pricing, technical feasibility studies, scheduling, contract negotiation, and constructability reviews among other responsibilities.

  • Meet with the internal staff, consultants, and any involved agencies or organizations, to review and discuss the permitting progress, and track all and ensure forward progress to meet Owner schedule. Communicate and document any variances.

  • Qualification of the General Contractor’s scope of work and contract value, carefully confirming that the design intent is captured in the planned execution, and that the proposed construction values and schedule align with the plans(in concert with Construction Manager).

  • Participation in the regular Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings. Monitor the Schedule and Resources, Procurement Log, Submittal Log, Requests for Information (RFI’s), and Potential Change Orders, making recommendations to the Owner and Contractor for improvements and efficiencies to maintain the project schedule and meet the Owner budget.

  • Weekly and monthly job site walks, monitoring and documenting construction progress and provide weekly photo. Provide the Owner with a third-party and objective assessment of the construction progress, and check the quality of the work, conformance with the design, and adherence to the plans and specifications.

  • Perform monthly progress reporting, which is intended to objectively qualify and quantify the work completed, and is squared up with the financial expectations. Ensure the consultant payments are in alignment with work and agreed upon fees.

  • Reviewing Shop Drawings and Submittals, and confirm integration with other dissimilar finishes and installations.

  • Quality control through construction, which includes a review of critical construction details that when combined, express a specialized attention to detail and finishes. This process ties together the hidden and observable finishes, and that the full orchestra of finishes combine to work together.

  • Communicate with “Discovery Creative” on behalf of the development to ensure that the vision for the project is upheld.

  • Hire, manage, and direct staff, which report directly to you (as required).

  • Other duties, as assigned and associated with the performance of construction and project management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Architecture.

  • Licensed Architect (preferred) in the state of Texas.

  • Minimum ten to fifteen years working experience, preferably in both residential and commercial environments managing architectural teams and sub-consultants.

  • Proven experience with architectural plan development.

  • Experience managing design and permitting of large construction projects.

  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Experience working in an environment with shifting priorities, demands and timelines.

  • Strong communication and relationship building-skills to effectively support and connect with diverse team members and contractors.

  • Ability to listen and respond to specific requests as directed by stakeholders.

  • Ability to understand project and company financials.

  • Ability to work well in a creative team environment.

  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, Smartsheet, Project and Visio and other technology as necessary.

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
