In-Person Sculpture/Art and Design Studio Assistant - Arlene Shechet Studio (Kingston, NY)

Prominent sculptor with an exciting, active studio seeks an experienced in-person Studio Assistant (Art and Design) to work with a tight-knit team in Kingston, NY.

Candidate must be a highly-responsible, technically-skilled, creative problem solver who will be excited to grow with a dynamic team tackling major sculpture projects/exhibitions. Primary responsibilities of the role are 3D-modeling and rendering and physical model fabrication. Additionally, the candidate should be comfortable in a project-management role, serving as the point-of-contact between our studio and various fabricators.

Applicants must be extremely proficient in Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite (primarily photoshop). ZBrush is a plus. The position is full-time, with considerations for part-time applicants. This position is in-person only. Our studio is located in Kingston, NY.

Compensation:

$60-85k

Responsibilities

⁃Production of 3D files for digital fabrication output

⁃3D sculpting and mesh editing

⁃Develop 3D designs for varying scales and material thicknesses

⁃Physical model making using paper, 3D printing, laser cutting, and other methods

⁃Communication with fabricators and team members about works in progress

Required qualifications:

⁃B.Arch, B.F.A., or Bachelor of Industrial Design, or related.

⁃Experience with custom fabrication, digital fabrication, architecture, or related.

⁃Experience with making clear construction or shop drawings.

⁃Advanced knowledge of Rhino 3D.

⁃Advanced proficiency with Adobe Suite (in particular, Photoshop).

⁃Experience with 3D rendering.

⁃Experience in preparing 3D prints, operating a (FDM) 3D printer, and maintenance.

⁃Experience outputting to CNC machines (especially laser cutter).

⁃Paper/cardboard model making experience.

⁃Must enjoy collaboration and have experience working well with a team.

Exceptional Candidates Would Also Have:

⁃M.Arch, M.F.A. or Masters of Design or related field, or equivalent work experience.

⁃Experience with welding.

⁃Experience with mesh editing software(s), i.e. Meshmixer.

⁃Mold making experience.

⁃Carpentry skills.
