Computational Designer - Sabin (Chicago, IL)

SABIN is a young architectural acoustics and lighting products manufacturer. We make the products in the same building they are designed in. We have a diversely talented team in our Chicago (Hermosa neighborhood) based factory. We are looking for a Computational Designer to join our team. This is a full-time, 100% on-site position.
Responsibilities
This role requires contribution to four domains:
1. Design for production of custom projects
2. Software & Workflow development, working with Software Developers.
3. Marketing: application expertise, visualization / visual asset creation
4. Product Development, joining the conception, prototyping and operationalization of new products.
Design arrays of products customized to projects, create shop drawings for the same.
Project management of these custom projects
Partner with programmers to create / modify generative design tools, research and develop new automated and semi-automated production workflows.
Work with programmers, business, and sales team members to connect production workflow to sales and business information outputs: costing, quoting, etc.
With creative partners, develop design / application guides to help specifiers understand products.
R & D efforts on special projects.
Develop new manufacturing applications for computational / generative design.
Work with Industrial designers and engineers on new product development
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, mathematics, computer science, and/or degree in computational design or similar.
Expert computation/generative design skills with Grasshopper
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Architecture Firm
Expert knowledge of CAD/CAE/CAM/BIM and its application
Advanced scripting and computer programming knowledge, Python. C# JavaScript a plus.
An entrepreneurial spirit and drive to understand and solve problems
Strong imagination, creative curiosity
Competent 3D modeling skills with Rhino
An active interest in manufacturing and making
Rendering skill a plus
Unity experience a plus
Sketching and Drawing skill a plus
Sketchup a plus
