Senior Exhibit Designer - Luci Creative (Chicago, IL)
Luci Creative’s Senior Exhibit Designer (SED) is an experienced design leader who is responsible for conceptualizing and leading the creation and integration of physical, experiential, and space planning aspects of Luci’s projects. Luci’s SED is passionate about creative work and is able to inspire creative teams and clients.
The Senior Exhibit Designer will drive the planning and execution of 3D physical space design and dimensionality for assigned projects. They always work closely with their project team, inclusive of graphics, interpretive planning, and project management specialists to ensure full and effective integration of all physical design elements, content delivery, interactives and media elements to deliver compelling and original experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
PROJECT VISION
Advocate for client goals and project objectives from project initiation through implementation
Be recognized as a leader for high-level creative and strategic direction
Translates project stories and interpretive plans into three dimensional spaces, from concept through final drawings by using hand sketches, sketch-up, podium, etc.
Works with a cross-functional creative team throughout the project to develop concept and drive vision through project execution by managing project objectives, expectations, and deliverables within project timelines.
CREATIVE DESIGN
Leads the design vision and dimensional strategy for projects.
Creating look-and-feel mood boards, compositional mock-up and exhibit style guides.
Conceptualizes and develops concepts for interactive experiences 3-D exhibit elements, interiors, artifact displays
Leads conceptual 3D development and illustrates design concepts through a variety of mediums, including hand sketches and computer renderings.
Responsible for translating project stories and interpretive plans into three dimensional experiential spaces, from conceptual stage through final drawings.
Works with internal resources to create drawing packages, including design detail drawings
Work in a team environment including Luci Creative staff, fabrication team and clients.
Managing documentation/deliverables that support each unique project.
Prepare for, attend, and participate in client facing presentations.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Leads the 3D design vision and strategy on assigned projects with minimal direction.
Establishes and manages 3D project goals, objectives, and scheduling on projects
Works closely with Associate Director of Exhibit Design on studio traffic planning related to assigned projects and execution of design deliverables.
Conceptualizes and develops concepts for all aspects of 3D project development including spatial planning, interactive experiences, 3D exhibit elements, interiors, and artifact displays.
Forms and outlines basic presentation concepts; planning and assigning project workload, and coordinating creative activities
Develops assets and documentation to be used for project budget estimating
Ensure on-time execution of all final project deliverables prior to client distribution (25%, 50%, 90%, etc.)
Manages documentation and deliverables for projects
Work closely with the production team on implementation, as design advocate and bridge between design and production
Communicate with other members of the project team throughout the project to resolve reported problems, obtain additional information, and ensure timely reviews
Attend cross-functional meetings as authority representing 3D environmental design
Work with creative leads to provide milestone deliverables
Communicates directly with the Project Director, Project Manager, and Fabrication team to manage project design to project budget parameters.
Communicate directly with Project Director & Project Manager as department representative throughout the project
CREATIVE MANAGEMENT
Working with clients and co-workers in a highly collaborative and creative process and clearly communicating design concepts and development as a whole.
Working closely with Project Director and Project Manager to help in the planning, budgeting, and scope delineation for new projects
Engaging in the complete planning processes and ideation sessions with clients and the Luci team
Working with the team to establish design criteria, asset delivery schedules and goals.
Creating look-and-feel mood boards, compositional mock-up and style guides
Illustrate ideas and solutions via hand-sketching and rendering, 3D modeling and rendering, and construction documents
Design advocacy (to clients, vendors, and partners): Balance brilliant creative work with doing what’s right for the client and project budget
Proactively solve problems at all levels, utilizing various resources and skillsets
CLIENT MANAGEMENT
Understand clients’ business, industry and needs at the highest level
In communication with client alongside Project Director on all things related to spatial planning, layout, and design
Presents to clients at designated milestones
Work with Luci team and clients to set goals for individual projects
Create and maintain professional client partnerships built on trust, respect and results
Listen to client needs and work with the team towards developing responsive solutions
INTERNAL MANAGEMENT
Responsible for managing the 3D portions of assigned projects. This includes:
- Setting daily/weekly goals
- Managing/assisting teammates on projects
- Develop workplans
- Proactively manage project to the budget and project schedule.
- Foresee problems and initiate solutions.
Raise concerns, potential problems, and proposed solutions to Associate Design Director, Executive Director of Client Experience, Chief of Staff, Executive Creative Director, or CEO.
Communicate with cross-functional team throughout the project to flag problems, obtain additional information, and propose or follow up on solutions.
