Sr. Director, Global Branded Environments

The Sr. Director, Global Branded Environments will lead the design development of inspiring MillerKnoll branded spaces around the world. These spaces will reflect the unique essence of MillerKnoll’s world-renowned offering and the industry-leading design brands within its collective–including its core iconic brands, Herman Miller and Knoll. As an established and influential design leader, you will collaborate with senior leaders and teams across the organization to ensure that the global showroom, exhibition, and event spaces you create deliver against strategic business objectives and express our position as the preeminent leader of modern design.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and co-author the complex interior design process that physically brings a brand to life in a variety of permanent and temporary spaces.

  • Find comfort in immersion and exploration of color, material, finish, and techniques that communicate the essence of a heritage and industry leading design brand.

  • Work collaboratively with Design Directors and Creative Directors from brands and functions, translating vision into reality through creative problem solving and creative design execution.

  • Fearless in your ability to push boundaries with bold ideas, innovative thinking, and creative leadership to expand the aperture of the brand and how it shows up in the world.

  • Have outstanding strategic thinking and methodical problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize data, insights, objectives, and requirements into clear and actionable design strategies/plans.

  • Able to see beyond the status quo and envision a future state.

  • Able to influence decision makers - gaining alignment and engagement with key leaders in support of the development initiatives.

  • Have strong business acumen, including ability to scrutinize P&L, understanding of key planning metrics and management of decision-making processes.

  • Be an exceptional communicator and collaborator, possessing a remarkable ability to influence people at all levels of the organization.

  • Able distill complex, and sometimes conflicting, ideas and inputs into a clear plan.

  • Have a remarkable collection of work that demonstrates your ability to deliver beautifully designed, multi-million-dollar branded experiences/spaces.

  • Be competent in handling and organizing a large volume of projects with the ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple concurrent initiatives that have significant brand and business impact.

  • Lead development of design principles and palettes including, but not exclusive to: foundational narrative, atmospheric/spatial intention, design language, material, color, texture, lighting, journey flow, etc.

  • Ensure an effective and efficient design process—from concept through execution, managing team resources, capacity, and schedules.

  • Provide stalwartly support for the team, the work, and design excellence.

  • Ensure and inspire design development of superbly brilliant, branded spaces for MillerKnoll showrooms, exhibitions, and events.

  • Lead and develop a team of designers and further strengthen our design culture.

  • Possesses a high level of integrity, accountability, and willingness to expeditiously solve problems.

  • Experienced with determining project timing and team resourcing, and capacity.

  • Serve as an influential and inspirational designer leader to the greater MillerKnoll organization.

  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, or related discipline.

  • Rich, diverse experience in architecture, interior design, environmental brand design, or related discipline preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience in progressive, professional level leadership roles; and experience in designing and managing to completion all aspects of relevant Interior and Architectural design, Showroom and/or Store Design and/or Retail or significant exhibition environments.

  • 10+ years of experience with team management and individual management with a proven track record of mentoring, coaching, and creative leadership.

Skills and Abilities

  • Highly experienced with Sketch-Up.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Working knowledge of Miro and Adobe Creative Suites a plus.

A starting compensation range for this role is $164,000.00 - $212,475.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors . You may also be eligible to receive a geographic premium, annual discretionary incentive and equity awards which are subject to the rules governing these programs.
