HOVER is looking for a product-minded design executive to lead all things design at HOVER, from product, marketing, and brand/identity to (most importantly) how design is woven into our company’s culture day-to-day.

The Design Team is ~10 strong across Product Design, Operations and Research, and we’re in the process of building out our Marketing Design Team. They are an exceptional group that embodies HOVER’s values of “think, do, serve.”

We’re looking for that unique individual who can unite design across all functions and lead a high performing team that delivers high quality, consistent design work that delights our current and future users, without sacrificing velocity and agility. As our Head of Design, you’ll be responsible for mentoring, coaching, and growing the team.

Everyone from our Founder/CEO down is a doer, and this role is no exception. You know that your team most respects experts in their craft and you’re comfortable leading by example as player/coach while also using your experience to up-level your team in their day-to-day execution and process.

Curious

You don’t have to know what fascia or soffit is on Day 1, but you’re fascinated and excited by the prospect of learning something entirely new and can learn quickly. You tend to guide and enable your team through curiosity and an open-mind.

Comfortable with uncertainty

As a growth-stage startup, things can change very quickly. Ideally you have experience working in similar situations in the past and are itching to get back to that small company environment where you can move quickly again.

Empathetic

Our customers don’t all live in San Francisco, and they don’t sit in front of a computer all day. But the prospect of designing for non-techies is exciting to you, and you can’t wait to immerse yourself in their day-to-day experience, with the ultimate goal of designing and building products they will use and love.

Your Background Includes

We believe there is strength in diversity, and we're building an inclusive culture that reflects that by hiring qualified, talented people from a wide variety of backgrounds. For this leadership role, we are looking for someone with:

  • 10+ years’ experience designing products, applications and design systems across web and mobile platforms, with an eye for world-class visual and interaction design.

  • 5+ years’ experience building and managing a team as a senior design leader. You should know how to attract exceptional people and inspire them to do their best work.

  • The ability to influence and guide the team towards a cohesive, user-centric quality standard leveraging your strong research background and/or product leadership experience.

  • Experience in leading a creative team through a period of high growth, with a strong focus on goal-setting, measuring effectiveness, and scale.

  • Proficiency in the use of data and analytics and fluency in the software development lifecycle.

  • Business savviness and ability to prioritize both world class design standards alongside growth and revenue acceleration.
