Lead Brand and Events Designer - TIME Magazine (NYC or Remote)

The TIME design team supports multiple key areas of the entire business, including advertising, marketing, product and events. The successful candidate will be an integral part of this team, reporting directly to the VP of Brand and Creative in a highly collaborative creative environment.

As one of the two senior members of the design team, this person will be responsible for taking the lead on the TIME family of brands and it’s most important franchises and events, such as TIME100 and Person of the Year.

TIME is currently at a pivotal moment in its history and is looking for a passionate and experienced Digital Designer to join our creative team to help drive the brand in exciting new directions.


Responsibilities:

  • Govern the design and presentation of the TIME core brand and the extensive family of TIME sub-brands, events and franchises.

  • Create, maintain and evolve the brand guideline resource for all of the above, ensuring attention to detail and brand consistency throughout.

  • Manage the creative delivery of TIME’s brand communication platforms, including email newsletters, social and core brand strategy.

  • Ideate, workshop and execute design directions of visual identities for a wide range of events, covering a variety of topics which align with our editorial coverage.

  • Have a solid grasp of broadcast, virtual live streams and the promotional/support material necessary for each.

  • Provide support to the brand team for all internal design communications, including HR support, internal branding, etc.

  • Help extract design briefs from a wide variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally in order to clearly define the deliverables, objectives, milestones and goals of any given project.

  • Conduct thorough research to guide the strategy and rationale behind the decisions made throughout the creative process. This might include UX best practices, market trends, competitive examples, etc.

  • Ability to master and use a variety of tools and techniques to create meaningful designs that not only look great, but are executed in meaningful ways that deliver quantifiable results.

  • Demonstrate an exceptional eye for layout and composition, in order to present information via the most appealing user experiences.

  • Inspire and mentor the junior members of the team to achieve their creative potential, setting and maintaining the highest standards of creativity from concept to execution.

  • Clearly and concisely express yourself and have a clear, thought-out rationale for your creative ideas.

  • Conceptual thinking is a must, we need someone who can problem solve and bring new ideas to the table.

  • Constantly monitor the latest design trends from around the world in order to bring fresh inspiration to the creative team (and our wider teams) on a daily basis.

  • Develop and work with a variety of style guides, design systems and brand guidelines throughout TIME, our sub-brands and our client partners.


Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience working in multi-functional creative team environments.

  • An online portfolio showcasing real-world design work for a wide variety of clients.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the latest design trends and visual aesthetics.

  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize in fast-paced environments under tight deadlines.

  • Someone who is naturally curious and loves to ask questions, even when it means challenging the established way of doing things.

  • A strong working knowledge of Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite and Invision

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken

  • The ability to work methodically and meet deadlines.

  • Intense curiosity about digital design, typography and creative cultures around the world.

  • Experience in animation, motion graphics, 3D, print, illustration and/or photography would be desirable.

  • Ability to quickly pivot and redirect your ideas and thinking in an ever-evolving and growing company

  • Ability to take feedback and address it clearly

  • Demonstrate clear confidence and pride in the work you produce and present to clients (both internal and external)
