The Design Strategist is a human-centered design leader - a servant leader who helps empower all Pontooners to use human-centered practices to deliver services and experiences that employees and clients love. This leader is skilled at creative problem solving, gathering business and user needs, designing graphic elements, and building desirable solutions. This role partners with a cross-functional team to co-create through clear problem framing, design experiments to drive a build/test/learn iteration and deliver great end-to-end experiences.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitates the design thinking process with cross-functional teams to derive insights and ideate creative solutions:
Frames and reframes business challenges to focus design efforts.
Empathizes with customers to discover pain points and unmet needs.
Synthesizes customer and other research to develop key insights.
Brainstorms ideas and develops high impact concepts and business opportunities.
Prototypes and tests concepts with customers.
Uses effective storytelling methods to convey knowledge or pitch opportunities.
Facilitates collaborative design activities and methods.
Identifies client’s pain points and challenges through interviews and creation of customer journeys.
Collaborates with process managers, program leaders, and clients to create intuitive and engaging experiences, working on multiple projects simultaneously.
Creates impactful client and executive presentations using storytelling and visual design.
Embraces and advocates for an experience and human-centered mindset while always prioritizing the user/client.
Demonstrates fluency of design strategy tools and techniques to measure success, present opportunities, and support decision-making.
Trains new facilitators in the design and facilitation of design thinking workshops through training customer-centered design principles, skills, methods, and technologies.
Owns the tools and templates for Pontoon’s design thinking capability.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree or related experience.
Two plus (2+) years of relevant experience preferably in a client facing setting, facilitating workshops.
Visual storytelling experience / storyboard experience.
Experience collaborating and problem solving with a cross-functional team (including non-designers) using MS Office, Zoom and modern collaboration tools like Miro.
Experience with graphic recording and visual facilitation is desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Skilled in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Positive attitude and motivation to delivery high quality work in the face of ambiguity and an ever changing, fast paced environment.
Entrepreneurial, experimental, and self-driven while also being collaborative with a professional presence.
Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
