Proposal Graphic Artist - SpaceX (Hawthone, CA)

From release of a customer’s requirements through award of a contract, the SpaceX proposal graphic artist manages the development and preparation of graphics for SpaceX’s competitive bids, usually for launch services worth millions or hundreds of millions of dollars, as well as for other persuasive communications products. In this role, you’ll prepare graphics that communicate the features and benefits of SpaceX’s constantly evolving technology and services, and specifically how those features and benefits address customer requirements.

You will manage requests from across SpaceX’s technical and business teams for graphics that address specific customer needs. You’ll be responsible for synthesizing highly complex technical content into clear, informative, persuasive graphics that support a clean, error-free final product.

The position requires the energy, initiative, flexibility, and dependability to produce graphics that reflect SpaceX’s commitment to the rapid and reliable advancement of human spaceflight.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage sales and Government Affairs proposal graphic requests, including ensuring adherence to company standards and guidelines.

  • Review proposal outlines, concepts, and narrative text and proactively suggest where graphics could be used to more efficiently and effectively communicate with the customer.

  • Work with technical staff to gather technical information and draft graphics for commercial and government proposals.

  • Work with technical and business staff to resolve open issues and questions about proposal figures and tables.

  • Edit and iterate graphics as necessary for clarity, logic, and readability.

  • Coordinate with industrial design and marketing teams to ensure graphics conform to company format and style.

  • Ensure graphics comply with customer instructions.

  • Help develop and improve graphic and document templates.

  • Improve and streamline the proposal graphic development process.

  • Help maintain repository of frequently used proposal graphics.

  • Support Mission Management, Sales, Government Affairs, and other SpaceX organizations with informative and compelling graphics for customer-facing presentations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, art, web design, or advertising.

  • 3+ years of professional design experience in illustration, graphic design, or print production.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop.

  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and/or Keynote.

  • Elevated sense of typographical space and proportions.

  • Pragmatic approach to design with a consistent output.

  • Experience with proposal or grant development.

  • Knowledge of government or commercial proposals.

  • Experience writing captions or headlines.

  • Experience following editorial and graphical style guides.

  • Proven ability to work under the pressure of long- and short-term deadlines.

  • Demonstrated record of successfully planning and completing both short- and long-term projects.

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Basic knowledge of SpaceX’s mission, business model, and competition.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: 

Pay Range:   

Proposal Graphic Artist: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00/per year         

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. I 324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
