Senior Director, Programs and Impact - Boston Society for Architects (Boston, MA)

The Senior Director, Programs and Impact will have overall responsibility for the strategic execution and operations of all educational and engagement programs for BSA’s key stakeholders - member architects/firms, allied professionals/firms, emerging professionals, and the broader community. The position will be a critical member of the senior leadership team and will work closely with the Executive Director and the other team leaders in Marketing/Communications, Development/Membership and Finance. They will develop an integrated approach to the portfolio of projects and leverage BSA’s strengths in terms of its membership and as a convenor in the community. They will assess the impact of current and potential programs to determine the optimal program and services mix to serve our key constituencies. Budgeted Salary Range: $110,00-$135,000.

Program Leadership and Management:

  • Enhance, clarify, and oversee execution of the organizational vision and strategy.

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence.

  • Establish, articulate and demonstrate the clear “value-add” of BSA in all of our programmatic efforts.

  • Ensure that BSA members are engaged and core to the programmatic efforts of the BSA.

  • Define and measure specific program goals, timelines, outcomes and resources needed.

  • Attract, retain, and develop high-performance team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control, and impact.

  • Coordinate and oversee programs that may include conferences, lectures, symposia, awards, charettes, continuing education, convenings of knowledge communities (volunteer committees), community design pro-bono projects and collaborations with the City of Boston and other partners.

  • Partner with Development team on galas and other programs that have fundraising opportunities.

  • Work with team members to deliver excellent outcomes with high degrees of customer (member) satisfaction.

  • Provide leadership in developing inter-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting staff during period of organizational change.

  • Embrace BSA’s unique role as a convenor of member architects, allied professionals and firms and community leaders.

External Relationships:

  • Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programs and the continued impact of BSA on members, allied professionals and firms and the Greater Boston community; cultivate existing relationships and developing new funder relationships.

  • Develop and manage relationships with partner organizations and oversee staff who are also developing and managing key relationships.

Knowledge Management and Sharing:

  • Develop the necessary systems, processes, and tools to better support the facilitation, collection, and sharing of knowledge to key stakeholders (Board, member and affiliated architects and firms, funders and the Boston community) that is generated by the programs and initiatives.

  • Develop dissemination system to share organizational learning with a broad range of communities.

  • Ensure that key project outcomes and/or policy, advocacy, and legislation are evaluated and leveraged for maximum community and organizational impact.

  • Work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to integrate cross program activities and functions.

  • Present regular updates and engage with board leaders as appropriate.

  • Staff board and volunteer committees.

  • Support all internal team members and departments in accomplishing the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Architecture or related field; Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • 10+ years of demonstrated program management experience required.

  • 5+ years of team management experience effectively recruiting, leading, and developing a performance- and outcome-based program/project managers and other professionals.

  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

  • Demonstrated partner development and management skills.

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with Executive Director and Development professionals.

  • Proven experience operationalizing strategies that have taken a program or

  • Ability to create decision making criteria and prioritize.

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives and manage a budget.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive, credible, and polished communicator particularly in public forums.

  • Excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.

  • Strong demonstrated success in developing and managing funder relationships.

  • Ability and interest in taking a hands-on approach in leading a variety of initiatives.

  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

  • Ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders including advisory groups, coalitions, forums, trade associations, foundations, corporate sponsors, and practitioner groups.

  • Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for BSA’s mission and commitment to working collaboratively with a management team.

  • Solid judgment and apparent leadership skills.

  • Ability to serve as a “player/coach” to motivate and mentor their team.

  • A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.

  • Ability to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities.

  • Strong analytical skills; basic business intuition, and common sense.

  • Strong work ethic.

Budgeted Salary Range: $110,00-$135,000.
