Director, Project Management - Sonder (Remote)

The Director of Project Management (North America) mandate is to develop and lead a world-class Project Management organization that supports Sonder’s unique operating model and brand promise.  Considering Sonder’s global expansion plans, there will be opportunities for extraordinary personal and professional growth for the right candidate.  They will report into the VP of Design, Development, and Openings (DD&O) and play a key role in developing the future of the North American Project Management team at Sonder.  This is a fully remote position, but requires travel throughout North America up to 25% of the time.

AT SONDER YOU WILL:

  • Manage multiple direct reports and lead an organization of 45+ project management professionals throughout North America (Canada, USA, and Mexico) in order to deliver new Sonder properties on time, on budget, on brand, and at scale.

  • Responsible for developing a world-class project management capability, organizational growth, career development, and resource management for the Project Management team to support Sonder’s growth ambitions.

  • Responsible for all phases of adding new Sonder properties to the portfolio, including real estate due diligence, planning and budgeting, entitlements and permitting, Sonder pre-construction, monitoring landlord work, cost and schedule tracking, value engineering, subcontractor and vendor management (e.g. signage, painting, security and access systems, third party logistics, FF&E vendors, etc.), staging, and closeout.  

  • Responsible for quarterly forecasting of property openings and budgets for signed deals

  • Collaborate with DD&O and Sonder cross-functional leadership (e.g. real estate,, market operations, interior design, interiors product development) to build and improve tools, processes and communication specifically to drive Project Management efficacy

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and vendors such as landlords, architects, and general contractors

  • Set strategies and OKRs, and establish metrics for yourself and your organization.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

  • Minimum 15 years professional project management experience, including 10+ years being directly responsible for the scope, schedule, and budget for development and/or construction projects and 5+ years experience leading a large project management team. Must enjoy all aspects of leading and managing large teams.  Hospitality industry experience required

  • Project controls (schedule, cost, quality), cost estimating and management, project schedule creation and management, construction observation, landlord dispute resolution, procurement and installation (including FF&E), and risk management services experience required

  • Experience in both a startup environment and public company 

  • Proven track record of leading, managing, and developing high performing remote project management teams across multiple geographies

  • An ultimate team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to influence and motivate individuals

  • Thrives in fast-paced and constantly shifting environments

  • Excels at working cross-functionally to build best-in-class tools and processes to support the expansion of our portfolio and integration of brand standards to accelerate high-quality growth

  • Out-of-the-box thinker who will find creative ways to hit opening goals while maintaining guest experience standards
