About Homestead
Homestead is a start-up focused on adding housing through the adaptive reuse of existing space in homes. We have one goal: to end the tyranny of single family housing.
Homestead turns garages, extra rooms, backyards into rental apartments. We design, permit, and project manage the buildout of Accessory Dwelling Units (also known as ADUs, backyard homes, or granny flats). Averaging 100 units a year and growing, Homestead will quickly redefine what new housing looks like in Los Angeles.
Techcrunch named Homestead one of YCombinator's top 20 companies of 2020. We're backed by Y Combinator (AirBnB, Twitch, Coinbase), Foundation Capital (Netflix, Sunrun, Clubhouse), and MIT's E14 fund. Homestead was founded by 2 MIT M.Arch grads who wanted to use architecture to make a real impact. We are a group of pragmatic idealists, and we're looking for high-energy team members with a strong belief in democratizing design, affordable housing, and fair living for all. All team members receive equity.
