Role
HILOS is seeking a talented and passionate Senior Computational Design Engineer to join our growing team. As a Senior Computational Design Engineer at HILOS, you will be a key player in building the core geometry engine of Interplay, creating powerful CAD automation tools that, when integrated with AI-enabled software, will unlock new dimensions of design innovation. Your work will directly impact the future of footwear design and manufacturing. You will be instrumental in the development of computational tools and capabilities that empower footwear brands to bring new innovation to market.
Salary Range:
$100,000-$160,000
Responsibilities
Geometry Engine Development: Design, develop, and implement core geometry engine features for Interplay, focusing on CAD automation and generative design.
Computational Tooling: Create and maintain computational design tools and scripts for design software.
Parametric and Procedural Systems: Develop systems for 3D geometry manipulation and data-driven design.
Digital Fabrication Integration: Work on translating digital designs into manufacturing-ready files for additive manufacturing.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with designers, engineers, and software developers to translate design intent into technical solutions.
Systems Thinking and Documentation: Analyze design problems, develop solutions, and document systems.
Research and Development: Explore, develop, and improve the team’s capabilities through the creation of novel computational tools and techniques.
Essential Skills & Experience
6-8 years of professional computational design experience in a relevant field, such as Industrial Design, Architecture, or Computer Science.
Strong proficiency in 2D and 3D design software, including Rhino, Grasshopper, and other relevant tools.
Working knowledge of a variety of geometry types, including BRep, mesh, VDB, and SDF.
Proficiency in Python, or, familiarity with a strong desire for self-directed learning in developing expertise.
Expert understanding of parametric modeling and generative design.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
A portfolio demonstrating computational design projects.
A growth mindset and a passion for learning new technologies.
Nice to Have
Experience with footwear design and development, or a strong interest in footwear.
Experience with 3D printing and other digital fabrication techniques.
Experience with software development workflows.
Experience with building tools that are used by other designers.
