MKG, with offices in NYC and LA, is actively looking for an Environmental Designer capable of working independently and collaboratively. In this role, you will take leading and supporting positions in 3D design on a variety of projects. Candidates should be within commuting distance of either office and will need to be available for in-person collaboration on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This position will begin with a four month short term position before converting to full time.

Overview of the Role

As a mid-level Environmental Designer, you will be responsible for the art direction, concepting and design of branded spaces and experiences. You will work both independently and collaboratively at varying capacities: leading 3D on projects individually, leading projects in partnership with a teammate or supporting portions of projects a more Senior teammate is leading. 

What You Will Do in This Role

  • Lead and support in the creative development and execution of all 3D design elements on a project (medium to large scale), including thorough floor plans, accurate 3D models, and polished renderings for presentations

  • Manage and mentor interns

  • Work as part of a Creative team, collaborating with 2D and other 3D Designers and Creative Strategists as well as with a larger team of Producers and Account Managers., etc.

  • Participate in the creative ideation phase and brainstorms to contribute innovative ideas

  • Develop original design concepts and art direction through mood boards and sketches

  • Deliver and present design deliverables directly to clients, articulating design decisions to sell work

  • Maintain clear and effective communication with clients, addressing their needs and incorporating feedback into design revisions

  • Design with close attention to project budgets and timelines, ensuring efficient use of resources

  • Lead site visits and surveys to gather accurate data for design implementation

  • Manage the sourcing of props, furniture, and décor, ensuring alignment with design concepts and project requirements

  • Co-manage fabrication vendors in collaboration with Production, creating and managing build lists for quotes, and performing value engineering as necessary

  • Lead design efforts during load-ins and installs, ensuring the execution aligns with design specifications.

Salary Description

 $68,000 - $85,000 

***This is the minimum + maximum base salary that we, in good faith, are willing to pay at the time of the posting. Salary commensurate with experience.

Requirements

What You Will Bring to this Role

  • Proven creative execution with 2-5 years of experience.

  • Degree or robust experience in Industrial Design, Environmental/Exhibition Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.

  • Portfolio of spatial design work—brand related work is required, experiential-specific work is advantageous

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop) and 3D programs (e.g., SketchUp).

  • Proficiency in rendering programs like Podium, V-Ray, Twinmotion 

  • Hand sketching skills are a plus

  • Experience working with brands and adhering to brand guidelines.

  • Expertise in designing physical environments, sets, and displays.

  • Passion for staying ahead of design trends.

  • Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills.

  • Acute attention to detail, highly organized, and diligent in follow-through.

  • Exceptional time management, multitasking, and managing multiple projects.

  • Confident in presenting work internally and externally; excellent communication skills.

  • Experience with fabrication shops, specialty vendors, and basic graphic design skills.

Salary Description

$68,000 - $85,000 annually
