Planner/Designer - Cedars Sinai Hospital (Los Angeles, CA)

The function of the Facilities Planning, Design & Construction (FPD&C) Planner/Designer is to provide planning and design services to all departments on a prioritized basis under the direction of the FPD&C designated Senior Architect, Architect, Project Manager, and input from other FPD&C support staff. In the course of providing these services, the Planner/Designer will support pre-design development, project management and the subsequent Construction-in-Progress application; develop space plans and project requirements; oversee procurement or movement of equipment/furnishings; coordinate project scheduling with the overall project schedule; and assist with development of the annual and Master Facility Plan (MFP) budgets.

All these activities will be performed within the prescribed CSHS space, furniture, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and associated standards. The Planner/Designer will work in close coordination with the FPD&C architects, medical planners, project managers, project coordinators, finance and administration. The Planner/Designer will also work closely with other CSHS Project Delivery Team members, and supervise the activities of architect/engineers, contractors, and vendors. Project may range from full capital construction of new space to room renovations. The Planner/Designer is someone who could be on a career path to become an Architect, Interior Designer, Engineer or Construction Project Manager.

  • Support FPDC Senior Architect, Architect or Project Managers within project clusters that include a portfolio of projects across the health system.

  • Responsible for planning the project from conception to completion of construction administration, move transitions and launch.

  • Initiate Project Start-up that defines the scope, budget, schedule and quality of the project.

  • Develop programming information as needed if business plan is not available.

  • Create space plan or test fit to validate program.

  • Determine delivery method with FPDC management.

  • Initiate Gate Review process.

  • Submit Construction in Progress (CIP).

  • Create A&E scope of work if required and submit Request for Proposal (RFP).

  • Interact and collaborate with end users, EIS, FM, Epi, EVS, Art Council, Signage/Wayfinding, Clinical Engineering and entire project team to ensure cohesive design.

  • Adhere the overall design process, including review, approvals and sign-offs from Decision Makers, FPDC Leadership and other partners as needed.

  • Ensure that the execution of design is consistent with Cedars-Sinai's level of expectations in terms of quality and function.

  • Maintain alignment with approved scope, budget, schedule, and quality. Deviation from this requires Leadership approval.

  • Evaluate, analyze and mitigate potential risks.

  • Foster collaboration and constant communication among team members.


Requirements:

High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in interior design, construction management, or architecture preferred.

A minimum of 3 years of Experience required in healthcare projects, space planning, design and/or construction documents and/or construction administration, which could also include experience in interior design, furniture selection and reconfigurations, or construction management experience.
