This position will focus on the design development of TriMet’s fourth bus base campus (the 32-acre campus includes bus maintenance garage, operation report and office building, a fuel building based on zero emission busses and wash building, warehouse, vehicle yard storage, etc).
Duties include working on a range of civil, urban design and construction related tasks, requiring independent evaluation, adaptation and modification of standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria, and assisting in the resolution of complex engineering, architectural, community, planning, and policy issues. As Project Manager, your role may include responsibility for policy and criteria development, design, design management, design and construction procurement, inspection, budget, cost controls, maintenance and replacement or rehabilitation of transit infrastructure and related features and amenities.
We're looking for a Project Manager with experience as an Owner's Representative or Principal Project Manager in architectural delivery, with complex or large-scale project experience. Strong knowledge of architectural design principles, building codes, and regulations, including sustainability efforts in design practice, are essential.
Our team needs a Project Manager with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with project delivery teammates, architects, contractors, and project stakeholders. Essential Functions
Project Management: Lead and manage architectural design process, from design through to construction and closeout, ensuring compliance with design specifications, budget constraints, and project timelines. Provide project management services as assigned in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning, engineering and sustainability disciplines, to develop conceptual and detailed design of major transit infrastructure and related facilities in the Portland metropolitan area, including preparation of designs, calculations, cost estimates, environmental impact data, documentation, and public presentation material. Represent TriMet at various interagency meetings as a fully competent technical representative. Review material for, and make presentations to, project directors, technical peer groups and community meetings.
Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as the main point of contact for the internal clients, establishing strong relationships, and providing regular updates on project progress, potential issues, and recommendations for improvements. Work and coordinate with other TriMet staff including engineering, general Council, planning, real property, community affairs, operations, maintenance, safety and security, and quality control personnel. Consult and coordinate with external project stakeholders including jurisdictional liaisons, permit agencies, community groups, private property owners, and developers.
Architectural Expertise: Utilize your in-depth knowledge of architectural design principles, building codes, sustainability goals, and regulations to provide guidance and oversight throughout all project phases to meet the agency needs. Prepare work scopes for staff and consultant tasks, including procurement and administration of consultant and contractor services. Supervise or coordinate the work of consultants and other support staff as required for specific assignments, and within established procedures.
Team Coordination: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including agency project delivery team, architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors, to ensure seamless project coordination and effective communication. Assist the workgroup manager in administering and managing the Design and Construction contracts. Perform tasks as assigned including, but not limited to: design reviews, Submittals, RFIs, permits, monthly pay requests, Change Order estimating and resolution, maintaining as-builts, and project coordination.
Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize any negative impact on project deliverables and robust design.
Budget and Cost Control: Collaborate on the oversight of project budgeting, cost estimation, and financial forecasting, working closely with the project delivery team and stakeholders to manage costs effectively.
Quality Assurance: Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure that the architectural deliverables meet the highest industry standards and agency expectations.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate project documentation, prepare comprehensive progress reports, and present project updates to key stakeholders.
Position Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree is required.
A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, Planning, or a related field is required.
A Master's Degree in a related field is preferred.
A minimum of six (6) years total credited experience.*
Four (4) years of construction management/general engineering experience are required.
Four (4) years of experience in public works, planning, and/or transit projects are preferred.
Two (2) years of lead or project management experience are required.
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
*The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.
