Senior Design Project Manager - Plenty Agriculture (Hybrid in Chester, VA)

As a Senior Design Project Manager, you will leverage your technical expertise to lead complex, multidisciplinary projects from start to finish. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the overall design of our indoor vertical farms and capital projects within farm assets from concept to deployment to ensure projects meet Plenty’s program requirements and our Product strategy. You will be responsible for overseeing design, schedule, budget and cost forecasting. What you'll do

  • You will work with stakeholders to plan and program requirements, identify risks, manage project scopes, costs and schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners external and internal across the company to ensure the designs of the Farm product and/or projects meet schedule, cost and performance requirements of the Farm.

  • You will collaborate with internal stakeholders in the development of Owners Program Requirements (OPR) and Basis of Design (BOD) by third-party architecture/engineering (A/E) partners to translate farm requirements into design package to be implemented by the construction contractors.

  • In this role, you will develop and manage project requirements and scopes, drive continuous process improvements, review construction documents including design drawings and specifications, and resolve technical issues during construction.

  • Project manage a cross functional team of Engineers, Supply Chain Managers, external consultants, internal product project managers to ensure appropriate resource loading for activities in all stages of the projects.

  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to innovate in our design to drive down costs, shorten deployment durations and iterate improvements through successive deployments.

  • Responsible for defining procurement strategies and approaches; and integrating design and procurement plans into the end-to-end Farm Project

  • Project manage the cross-functional team in addition to allocating and managing budget and schedule across Farm Areas and align with the team responsible for delivering against budget and schedule; comprised of engineering, supply chain, construction management, controls, and others to develop architecture and designs across automation, electronics, devices, and firmware.

  • Author and maintain risk registers including cost controls for projects and oversee completion of mitigations for technical and business risks.

  • Support in other upstream Farm Asset planning initiatives including Plenty selection of future sites, including review of surveys, titles and zoning, environmental and geotechnical reports in conjunction with external consultants, solicitation of utility services, analysis power and energy markets, and preparation of utility agreements.

  • During construction phase, accountable for change control decision making process and escalation through balance of influence and decision making.

What you'll bring to the table

  • Experience or education equivalent to a B.S. in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or B.A in Architectural

  • 10+ years of experience in large scale capital project management ($50-$100M+ scale a plus)

  • Background in working with management of engineering service consulting (managing A&E providers).

  • Appreciation for the art of managing evolving project requirements in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience using a standard product development process.

  • Highly collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel ~25%
