Job Description:

Location:

This position is based in Santa Fe, NM or Denver, CO

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $104,700 - $160,600. Compensation for candidates varies based upon location and experience. This position is also eligible for a bonus of up to 12% of base salary. Bonuses are not guaranteed and depend on the successful achievement of pre-determined company and individual performance goals.

Meow Wolf is seeking a dynamic and adventurous Senior Creative Director to manage and execute the evolving creative vision of an exhibition space. Working alongside the General Manager and Operations team they will balance the exhibition’s creative ambition with its resources. The ideal candidate is skilled at driving teams toward consensus and takes pride in supporting the creative vision of many contributors. Working with the Exhibitions Creative Advisor, the  Senior Creative Director’s goal is to strategize and manage the continuing creative evolution of the exhibit to maintain its relevance and appeal.

 

Additionally, the Senior Creative Director will serve as an advocate for the creative ideas of the Operations team, and help assess which suggestions best achieve the goals that have been collectively established in order to address functionality issues for guests or improve the general guest experience.  This person will, in partnership with the Exhibitions Creative Advisor and Operations team, lead a team of artists, creators and designers (such as Art Directors, Narrative Leads, Content Directors, Artists, contractors, etc.). A Senior Creative Director is highly imaginative, effective at synthesizing and distilling the creative vision from all disciplines in Meow Wolf, and comfortable setting expectations and deadlines for many types of projects and people. They must be steadfast and strategic as they work within Meow Wolf’s highly ambitious and collaborative model. The Senior Creative Director will assess how all aspects of the creative vision come together, and thus, will be accountable for the overall impact. 

Requirements

You will lead your team in maintaining and expanding upon the overall creative vision of Meow Wolf’s original Santa Fe exhibition, “House of Eternal Return” and Denver’s “Convergence Station”. 

How you will do it…

  • Maintain and augment  the overall artist creative vision for the exhibitions.

  • Partner with the General Manager and Operations Team to manage scope/schedule/budget for Creative efforts across the exhibitions.

  • Ensure creative intent is met across all aspects of active projects.

  • Work with the Artist Curation team on the socially responsible curation of artists both in and out of house.

  • Be decisive and dynamic while synthesizing an overall vision that leaves room for input from other creatives, artists and collaborators.

  • Partner with the Operations Team to provide routine creative briefs to the Leaders of the Sustainment Group elevating any decisions that may impact scope, schedule or budget.

  • Set Creative Guidelines with the various team members for the output of all Fabrication teams 

  • Lead a collaborative team, allowing for multiple disciplines to contribute artistically to ideation and project execution.

  • Hold space for internal and external artist collaboration, and be comfortable with navigating ambiguity.

  • Ensure creative cohesion across the exhibit.

To be successful in this role…  

  • You bring a minimum of 8+ years of Creative Direction experience in immersive art, themed entertainment or a directly related industry, shepherding project from ideation to execution.

  • You possess strong communication/collaboration skills and the ability to work and thrive in a team environment.

  • You bring an open mind to collaborate with individuals of varying personalities and artistic styles.

  • You balance thoughtful, in-depth creative problem solving with timely delivery that corresponds to the pace of the project while maintaining excellent communication.

  • You have the ability to lead endeavors and facilitate meetings. 

  • You come with creative artistry and an illustrative capacity, along with an understanding of various fabrication techniques and materiality.

  • You hold a knowledge of interactive systems and technologies, as well as digital and physical installation standards for non-linear experiences. 

  • You enjoy thinking deeply and you're not afraid to ask why.

  • You must possess a solid knowledge of core platforms as they will be utilized on a daily basis:

    • G-Suite 

    • Microsoft Office

    • Adobe Suite

  • Desired qualifications:

    • Project management programs

    • Red lining architectural drawings

    • 3D modeling programs 

Work environment and physical demands…

  • This position is based in Santa Fe, NM or Denver, CO and a company laptop will be provided.

  • This is a full-time position averaging 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm MT or 10 am to 6 pm MT  – occasionally requiring flexibility to work during evenings or weekends based on business needs.

  • Frequent travel to off-site locations is required.
