Computational Designer - Arktura (Torrance, CA)

Using your refined design sense and expertise in scripting and programming, you will design innovative architectural products and enable parametrically customizable solutions, while automating the manufacturing process to bring to market Arktura’s next disruptive architectural systems. You will join a multi-disciplinary team who challenge the expected and push the boundaries of design. With experience in manufacturing and prototyping techniques and the curiosity to learn more you will transform complex digital ideas into fabricated systems using industry leading manufacturing tools and techniques.

Once Here You Will Immediately Make An Impact By

  • Conceptualizing new patterns, forms, structures, and the future of architectural systems through digital and physical techniques

  • Authoring scripts and programs that enable, inspire, or generate the design of complex parametric systems

  • Identifying inspiration, trends, and references to build consensus and determine the product requirements and new opportunities

  • Using your communication and clarity to lead design reviews and agile-based projects

  • Increasing the efficiency and practicality of manufacturing through the creation of automation scripts.

  • Thoughtfully developing the creative and engineering details to ensure ease of use and manufacturing

  • Reviewing your finished systems in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility; in the same building you designed it

Naturally, You Have

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience as a Computational Designer

  • Expertise with Rhino and incredible Grasshopper scripting skills, including the creation of custom components

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, VB, or C#

  • A passion for fabricating your digital designs and working with your hands

  • Strong graphic and layout skills

  • A love for patterning

  • Confidence in your hand sketching

  • Exceptional communication skills

  • A drive to take responsibility and get things done, while being a stellar team player

  • A passion for continuing to learn and grow

  • Organizational skills that help you to keep track of everything

  • Experience with architectural design, detailing, and construction details

  • Photoshop skills

  • A love and hate relationship with Microsoft Word and Excel

  • A degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or Computational Design

Any Of These Would Be a Plus

  • Experience with Houdini

  • Experience with sheet metal design

  • Experience with microcontrollers

  • Experience with Alias

This is a hybrid role so a local candidate is a Must.
