Computational Designer - Modelab (Portland, OR or Remote)

Modelab is looking for a passionate computational designer to join their team in developing complex sustainable design solutions using advanced digital manufacturing and computational design processes. The purpose of this role is to create innovative sustainability solutions, using advanced computational tools and processes, that challenge the status quo.

  • Work directly with our team of designers to build advanced solutions for innovative design and manufacturing applications

  • Research, design, and build digital tools in visual and/or textual languages

  • Design, develop, and deliver computational design software training content

  • Deliver client projects alongside Fortune 500 brands

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

General

  • A purpose-driven design lover who puts people and the planet first

  • Background in Product Design, Automotive/Transportation Design, or Architecture

  • Rigorous systems thinker inspired by both the art and science of computing

  • Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills


Technical Experience

  • Ability to research, synthesize, design, and implement algorithms for an existing platform using one or more languages

  • Proficiency in a variety of CAD/DCC software and programming languages such as Adobe Illustrator, Blender, Houdini, Rhino/Grasshopper, Substance, Python, and C#, preferably in a production environment

  • Practical knowledge of technical considerations required when designing for advanced sustainability solutions

  • Practical knowledge of agile development practices is a plus

  • Experience delivering 3D software training is a plus
