Overview

The digital modeler bridges the gap between styling and engineering by bringing conceptual designs into reality through high-fidelity digital surface models. Digital modelers specialize in combining an eye for design with engineering sensibilities to produce a successful product that offers a marriage of form and function.

Salary

Salary will be determined based on a number of factors, including but not limited to years of experience, training, skillset, location, etc.  Expected salary range in CA - $104,300 - $125,100 per year.

Responsibilities (80s of the Position) 

  • Create digital automotive surfaces ranging from concept to Class-A level.

  • Ability to work closely with exterior, interior, and accessories design staff.

  • Ensure all Class-A criteria, such as feasibility, fit and finish, surface quality, tolerance, etc., meets design and production requirements.

  • Work with engineering and packaging engineers to incorporate all feasibility criteria.

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams: engineering, manufacturing, design quality, craftsmanship, purchasing, and marketing to execute design concepts into production.

  • Research and present initiatives to keep the design processes of the studio relevant within the industry.

  • Define and create physical validation models.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in industrial design, transportation design, mechanical engineering, or equivalent practical experience

  • 5 - 10 years of CAD experience (Alias, Catia, ICEM Surf), preferably within the automotive OEM space

  • Understanding of production automotive development and procedures

  • Understanding of basic manufacturing and prototyping methods and materials

  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with quick turn-around.

Preferred Experience:

  • Intuitive feeling and passion for automotive design

  • Knowledge of polygon modeling, e.g., Blender, Alias Sub-D, Dynamo, etc.

  • Proficiency in Keyshot, VRED, or equivalent rendering software

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 30% travel (domestic and international)

Physical Requirements:  

While performing the duties of this job, employees may be required to sit for prolonged periods of time, occasionally bending or stooping, lifting up to 10 pounds, and prolonged periods of computer use.
